World Cup : A Moment of Integration or Separation?

World Cup euphoria has spread all over the world. 32 teams have shown its potency to become the winner of a glorious cup ever in the football history. And it comes for Holland and Spain to fight for the last battle. Such a show that we have enjoy for about 1 month. The Gloria of WC also disseminated us in Indonesia. World Cup virus has spread all over societies, we all watched WC, no matter who you are.

Every night we spent around 2 hours to watch our beloved team play, or even to watch another teams play. This moment typified with togetherness among spectators, both in stadium or in front of TV, Moment where we and our friend team up to support a team., moment we shout aloud together when our team score a goal. World Cup really become a time we spent so much time discuss a same topic-football-. Seem true, World Cup has become a phase of integration with others.

But, at the same time, World Cup raises a sense of separation between us. As we could see in Maluku, people fought as they beloved team, Argentina lost to Germany. Their conflict started by a single mistaken, one supporter over joke other, and as the harmed supporter feel bothered because of it, they start a fight.
World Cup, directly, or indirectly has impacted on sense of togetherness. It can be easily found people team up for their team, support and keep close each other. But we could easily found people humiliate other team by provoking harmful commentaries that ended in dysfunctional conflict.

World Cup 2010 should be a moment of integration of all people around the world. Nationalism must be keep up, but remember, soccer is soccer, not more. Indeed it just a game, no need to put emotion on it. Let we support fair game, like football teams support fair play. Support our team, respect other, and support fair play.
